Communities For Children Initiative

The Communities for Children Initiative has come about from recommendations from the National Agenda for Early Childhood as part of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy, and its priorities are:

To work with 0 to 5 year olds and their families in the Kingston, Loganlea and Waterford West area to promote:

  • Healthy Young Families
  • Supporting families & parents
  • Early Learning and Care
  • Child Friendly Communities
  • Children & Family Services work effectively as a system

The Kingston, Loganlea & Waterford West site includes parts of the Logan City Shire. The Australian Government has allocated $3 million for early childhood support and assistance in this community. The Salvation Army will facilitate the distribution of funds across a range of services in the community.

The Salvation Army will work in partnership with local stakeholders including community leaders, family services providers and all levels of government to implement the Communities for Children Initiative. The Communities for Children Committee will oversee the project and will comprise of local stakeholders and experts. The Committee will consult with the community to identify local needs and develop and agreed Community Strategic Plan that responds to those needs.

Together, The Salvation Army and the communities of Kingston, Loganlea, and Waterford West will aim to ensure the best possible start in life from some 2,600 children under the age of five in the area.  dcp_2311.jpg
